McLaren Construction, 3663 Paddock Wood
Project Summary
The project consisted the development of a 32,000m² industrial site comprising a cold stores, offices, car park, lorry park and service yard. The existing site being a disused railway platform, with the site investigation report showing that the ground was made up of varying fill materials underneath the existing finished surface.
Cubic Solution
The earthworks required quantifying as per the proposed tender drawings, with the site strip and excavation quantities being identified by material type. Quantities were provided to accord with the proposed three phase development strategy identifying the need for the disposal of 11,000m³ of material off site.
Cubic were then employed to rationalise the external works design to provide the best balance of cut and fill. Through adjustment of levels Cubic were able to balance excavations and fill materials from the earthworks operations, thereby reducing the material off site to zero.
Benefits
Cubic’s analysis and final report provided our client with the potential to rationalise the external works design and potentially save the removal of 11,000m³ of material from site, an estimated saving of £150,000.
